3 Different Shows in 3 Different Locations
All within 10 days!

Coming June 24, July 1 and July 4, 2025

The renowned and spectacular Montreal International Fireworks Competition returns on June 24, 2025 with 8 shows plus the Canada Day pyrotehniques display on July 1st. What better way for fireworks fanatics of this visual eye candy to photograph three different shows, at three different locations - all within 10 days!

Tuesday June 24 is our first meet up at the intimate and friendly Millenium Park in Dorval, a suburb of Montreal, to capture the St Jean Baptiste Day festivities and fireworks put on by the BEM Fireworks company. This large grassy municipal park with its three gazebos, live entertainment and free parking, sits next to Lake St Louis. The fireworks are launched from a barge floating in the lake, providing superb reflections!

The evening starts off with a small wine and cheese party mixed with pre-shoot tips and techniques plus some images of what to expect! At the end of the show, we will have a celebratory wrap up and image evaluation back at my nearby residence to top off the evening.

Then on Saturday July 1st, we switch to the lush Parc Dieppe, with its rolling hills, picnic tables and beautiful views of the Montreal city harbour and skyline. With a tips and techniques refresher, here we will photograph the changing light as the sun sets behind the city's shimmering skyscrapers. Precisely at 10pm, it's time for the dazzling Canada Day Fireworks celebration! With pleasant river breezes, it's a great way to escape the summer heat while soaking in the spectacular city views!

Finally on Thursday July 4, we travel to our third location and my favourite secret spot, to capture the magnificent fiery explosions and bursts of the International Fireworks Competition. Japan takes the stage as it launches its production synchronized to music from Isle St Helen.

With excellent, unobstructed sight lines, a BIG sky, magnificent reflections on the St Lawrence River in front of us and beautiful Mount Royal with the illuminated cross at its summit, this tripod friendly location provides stunning visuals. Socializing in a unique location follows depending upon the weather. This amazing site, seen in the above photo, will only be revealed to paid-up participants!

The Triple Shot Fireworks Tour! June 24, July 1 and July 4

The Ultimate workshop to hone your skills and come away with more evocative and powerful keepers, with some experimental abstract imagery on night three. Includes one-on-one shooting assistance, image evaluation, technical tips and handouts, including LIVE image-processing techniques in either Lightroom Classic, Photoshop Elements or Photoshop 2025 with a printed guide and keyboard shortcuts for faster image-processing.

The Double The Fun Fireworks Tour! (select any two dates)

Double the fun, to help you come away with some winning images. The second shoot will help you refine your skills and camera technique, after evaluating your images the first night. This includes one-on-one shooting assistance, image evaluation, technical tips, and handouts, including a printed guide to image-processing steps in Photoshop Elements or Photoshop 2025.

The Having a Blast Fireworks Night! (select first or second night)

With this package, I will help you setup your camera with the correct settings, discuss technique and what to look for. The evening includes one-on-one shooting assistance, image evaluation, technical tips and handouts, including a printed guide to image-processing steps in either Photoshop Elements or Photoshop 2025.

All fireworks shows commence at 10pm with a duration from 20 to 30 minutes. Rendezvous times vary with location, usually 3 hours in advance. The meeting time, locations, directions to the venues, maps and a Photo Check List will be emailed to all registered participants.

Maximum participants: 8
A spouse or partner who is not photographing, is welcome to join in.

Skill level: For all - from Beginner to Advanced


Suggested Equipment:

- DSLR, Mirrorless or compact cameras such as Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony, Olympus, etc.
- wide angle zoom lens and a telephoto zoom are recommended
- camera tripod - recommended for long exposures
- shutter release cable (the self-timer to trip the shutter may also be used - instruction provided)
